This hike will be an 8-figure of two loops starting at the Satwiwa Loop Trail from the parking lot. Then, we will continue hiking the South Ridge Trail on the other side and back to the parking lot through the Ranch Overlook Trail. “Satwiwa” is Chumashan and directly translates to “the bluffs,” which can also translate to “higher places,” and is the Chumashan name used for a former village near the current culture center.
We will enjoy the gentle slopes, yielding trails and the awesome views of Big Sycamore Canyon Trail, which descend from Satwiwa to the Pacific Ocean along a historic Chumash trade route.
The forecast for Thursday is 67” at 8 am and 75* at 11 am; however, there is little shade during this hike.
This hike is about 5 miles long with an elevation gain/loss of approximately 800-1000 feet.
Directions:
Exit 101 at Lynn Road in Thousand Oaks. Go west for 5.5 miles, and turn left, under the Rancho Sierra Vista arch, into the National Park. Drive to the end of the driveway, and park near the restrooms.
